Even though hold’em is unbearable, really enjoyable and exhilarating. You should know before diving right into poker and wasting all your money. Even if you play hold’em with low limits the loses will catch up to and will put you in a dry finiancial state. I will post more stuff later about basic things you should know before playing Hold’em or Studs the other slower variation of poker. Knowing these smalls things and applying them will be easy because often these tips will be things to look out for in a dry situation.
Before any cards are dealt, the first two players left to the dealer’s position are obliged to post blind bets, which are used instead of antes to make for fast paced action. This is to stimulate the action(two players will post their bests before seeing any cards, making it blind).
In a $10-$20 Holdem game, blinds are usually 5$ and 10$. Blinds are always live. Because the blind is forced, the bettors can raise whenever everyone else had passed.
Unlike in Studs where position matters, in Holdem the player with the dealer button acts last- every round of betting that takes place except the first.
Stud poker is a game of live cards. If the cards you need to improve your hand are cards in the hands of the opponent or discarded by folds then you are dead. But if those cards, that you need to improve your hand not visible, then your hand is live.
Many beginners make this mistake, when they get three suited cards they become exicited. And then they bet on the third street, but before you must be patience and see if there are any cards from the same suit as yours visible. If not then your good.
But if you see your opponents hands and they have the suits that you have, wait patiently, for a better opportunity that is the most logical move to pull off.
